Moving from Chaos to Clarity

The Myth of the Perfect Time | 3-2-1

Benji, waiting for a delivery...

The View from Here

Nine years ago, my family spent 15 months living in an RV. It was an amazing adventure, but had plenty of what my husband grumblingly called the "somethings": the flat tires, the full black tanks, the unexpected snowstorms. Those experiences helped shape one of my core philosophies: intentionality isn’t about waiting for the road to be clear; it’s about learning to navigate while the "somethings" are happening.

Despite years of living and coaching this, I still find myself susceptible to the myth. Reflecting this month, I realized it was showing up in an unexpected place: my relationship with our rescue dog.

Benji is a wonderful companion, but struggles with deep anxiety whenever delivery people approach our house. For five years, I’ve delayed the necessary follow-up training. My excuse was always the same: I don't have the time right now to research the best methodology, find the right professional, and implement a complex plan.

The cost of my waiting? A dog living in a state of hyper-vigilance, a house filled with reactive barking, and tension rippling through our family every time a truck pulls into our driveway.

Last week, I finally let go of the idea that I had to be the one to figure it all out. I stopped waiting for a calm week to become an amateur dog trainer. Instead, I took the first small, incremental step: I made a phone call to a training service. The training isn't finished yet, but the behavior is finally being managed because I stopped waiting for the perfect moment to start.

The "perfect time" is a shadow we chase to avoid the discomfort of starting. I’ve written a deeper dive into why waiting actually sustains the chaos we are trying to escape. You can read the full article on The Compass.

3 | Your Turn

Where are you holding out for a clear signal or a calm week before starting, and what is the cost of that waiting?

In what area of your life are you currently letting perfect be the enemy of finished?

What is the absolute smallest, first step of your plan that you could execute today, right in the middle of your current chaos?

2 | Worth Your Time

A Concept:

Hofstadter’s Law might be part of why we think the calm period will arrive, but it does not:

A task always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter’s Law.

A Book:

Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman.

A provocative look at time management that encourages us to stop trying to get on top of everything and start living in the reality of our limitations.

The Experiment: A 1% Shift

The Action: Pick one goal you have been delaying. Instead of planning the whole journey, commit to the "phone call" equivalent. What is a 5-minute action you can take today that requires zero "expert" knowledge from you?

The Tool: I’ve created a simple 1% Progress Tracker to help you visualize how these small actions compound into real progress.

Where Clarity Meets Connection

What is your "Benji" situation right now?

What struggle are you holding out to address, or a win you’ve been too busy to celebrate? Don’t wait for the perfect moment to find clarity.

To bridge the gap between where you are and where you intend to be, I created LUCA (Living Under Clarity & Alignment), my dedicated space for us to connect. It is a catalyst for your "right now".

Share a thought. Celebrate a breakthrough. Ask a question.

I personally review every message, and I’m here to listen.
